ANU is a three-evening celebration of improvised music, dance, spoken-word, and visual art. ANU is the story of creation, revealed through 22 artists in a multi-media, multi-ethnic experiment. What would happen if everyone actually tried to become one?! Can we create the universe according to our own specifications? Such aspirations are the creative force behind ANU.
The objective of each artist is to “become one” by defying their own creative agendas. The production’s goal is to perform dynamic, continuously creative art over the course of the evening, and over three nights. The result is a story set among stirring whispers, vibrant visual landscapes, crescendos of driving rhythms, curious fragments of thoughts, rousing ensembles and beautiful arias. Each night is distinct for the performers and audiences, and a whole unto itself. Everyone—including the audience—influences this story.
ANU is also the name of the Sumerian Sun-God, whose spirit has been invoked for our purposes. Anu had one major responsibility in Sumerian mythology: to distribute among the other Gods, the powers to create the universe. Ambition soon swelled in and around the Gods--the same ambition Anu had in him, too. He said they all must encourage the highest level of understanding by always listening with the good of others first in your heart, and speaking the truth. The Gods did aspire greatly to that. Artists attempt their creations with the same purity.
ANU was conceived among the destructive flashes and residues of the first War in Iraq: what, if in that moment of light, the result could be pure creation instead of destruction?
ANU is three nights of anticipation, creation, and celebration--a chance to metaphorically rewrite the laws of the universe in a highly engaging and entertaining way.

We strive to provide continuous opportunities for technical and artistic growth to ballroom dancers through coaching, financial support, and partnership with the local, regional, national, and international ballroom dance communities. We are one of North America's longest-running, largest, and most-respected ballroom dance organizations.
Each year our activity culminates in the Canada Dancesport event, an International DanceSport Federation (IDSF) world-ranking tournament that provides Canadian ballroom dancers of all ages and levels with the opportunity to enjoy artistic exposure, competition, and recognition alongside their international peers.
CDS is also committed to providing education and outreach programming that is accessible to people of all abilities, so that our entire community may enjoy the artistic, physical, social, and emotional benefits of ballroom dance. Our team is active in dancesport community education through schools, municipal programs, and university courses.

The on-line home of Canada's premiere male choir. Since its creation in 1992 by conductor Diane Loomer, Chor Leoni (choir of lions) has become a fixture in the upper echelons of the Canadian choral world. A combination of riveting stage presence, imaginative and eclectic programming, quality a cappella singing, and a willingness to “try anything once” has captivated audiences across Canada and guaranteed wildly enthusiastic sell-out crowds wherever the lions appear. The choir was invited to represent the C.B.C. in the European Broadcasting Union’s prestigious Let the Peoples Sing 2003 International Choral Competition in the Adult Choir category. Competing against choirs from twenty-one countries, Chor Leoni was the only North American choir and the only male choir to advance to the finals, and placed fourth overall. Yuletide Fires, the choir’s Christmas CD on the Skylark label, received the 2004 Outstanding Choral Recording Award from the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors, and a Western Canadian Music Award as Outstanding Classical Recording 2004. The Edmonton Columbian Choirs began in 1965 under the direction of Paul J. Bourret. It was set up as a girls’ choir sponsored by the Edmonton Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. Since that time, the group has had up to five concert choirs for chil¬dren and adults. The choirs have competed successfully at the local, provincial and national levels. They have performed in Europe, across the United States and throughout Canada. The choirs provide a quality music education with highly qualified conductors and accompanists. The Edmonton Columbian Choirs perform the widest musical diversity from Classical to Contemporary and Broadway – including Jazz and Contem¬porary Canadian works. The Edmonton Columbian Choirs currently produce three concerts annually which include performing at the Francis Winspear Centre for Music, McDougall United Church and the Royal Glenora Club. There may also be the opportunity to travel and participate in weekend retreats. Individual choirs may have other performance opportunities arranged through the conductor throughout the year.
Currently, the choir opportunities offered by the Edmonton Columbian Choirs are: Young Columbian Singers (Boys and Girls Aged 6-10), Junior Columbian Singers (Boys and Girls Aged 10-14) and the Chanteuses Ladies’ Choir (Adult Women).
There are currently 20 boys and girls in the Young Columbians conducted by Elaine Dunbar.
There are 18 boys and girls in the Junior Columbian Singers conducted by Vern Slipetz. This group has been asked to be part of a massed Canadian choir and sing on Parliament Hill on July 1, 2009.
The Chanteuses (conducted by Heather Bedford-Clooney) have twice been national finalists in the CBC Amateur Choir Competition have sung with the Edmonton Symphony and the Alberta Ballet. In 2001, they were guests of the Canadian Government for Canada Day and joined Vancouver’s Elektra Women’s Choir for its 2002 West Coast Tour.

Greenwood Singers

Founded in 1980 by Dr. Robert de Frece, Greenwood Singers has evolved into a versatile choir able to sing a variety of styles and genres from Renaissance to Broadway. It's eclectic programming has made its concerts popular with music lovers of all ages.
In the beginning, Greenwood Singers specialized in the performance of a capella music from different stylistic periods. Its programming has now expanded to include works from soloists, instrumental ensembles and chamber orchestra.
Greenwood Singers frequently performs with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in a variety of programs which have included Mahler's Symphony No. 8 (Symphony of a Thousand), Holst's The Planets, the concert version of Jerome Kern's Showboat, the ESO 1992 reunion with the British rock group, Procal Harum and are regulars at the annual family Christmas POPS concerts.
Greenwood Singers has also performed with the Alberta Baroque Ensemble and with the Alberta Ballet in its 2001 production of Orff's Carmina Burana. This Edmonton-based chamber is quite frequently heard on CBC Regional and National programming.
The choir sang for the 24th Biennial World Conference of the International Society for Music Education in 2000 and also sang for the opening ceremonies of the 8th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in 2001.

Sarena Paton is known to have one of the most angelic voices regardless of which musical style she is presenting. Although trained classically, Sarena has fallen in love with both jazz and broadway music. Sarena studies voice privately with Tom Schilling. She is a 2003 graduate of Sir Wilfrid Laurier University and received the Alumni Gold Medal in Spanish. As an actress she has appeared in various TV series, including “Road to Avonlea” and “Mr. Dress-Up”, several animated cartoon series, movies, theatrical productions as well as some opera productions. Sarena has sung with the Vox Nouveau Singers since 1993 and this season she returns to the choir as their Guest Soloist. Her experience includes performing the role of Christine with Peter Karrie (The Phantom Unmasked), Jim Witter, and the Boris Brott National Academy Orchestra in Vivaldi’s Gloria and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy. In 2002, along with her own concert series, she participated in the 8th International Mozart Festival in Salzburg, Austria. Sarena has enjoyed her first year as a vocalist with the Hamilton All Star Jazz Band and was thrilled to join them on their European tour. She is looking forward to another exciting year of performing and her future as a singer.

Amethyst Scottish Dancers of Nova Scotia was founded in 1985 as an outlet for dancers to share their joy of the art of highland dancing. Since then, they have entertained Royalty, cruise ship passengers and thousands of others, both at home and abroad. In 2008 the troupe traveled to Dubai where they performed for international students from over 100 different countries. In 2009 the troupe entertained crowds at Disneyland California as part of Disney Magic Music Days. The Amethyst Dancers are regular participants in The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
All dancers are highly trained and accomplished highland and step dancers. The troupe, usually made up of 25 to 30 dancers, is comprised of both senior and junior dancers, as well as a step group, ranging from 9 to 25 years of age.
A typical Amethyst performance includes traditional Scottish Highland and National dances, modern choreographed numbers as well as a step dance or two. Audiences are treated to lively music, exciting dancing and colourful costumes. The Amethyst Scottish Dancers proudly wear their trademark kilts of Dress Nova Scotia tartan.

W.E.S.T. was formed with the mandate of providing a refreshing and more intimate alternative to the mega craft shows, by promoting both established and emerging artists by the artists themselves, as well as the neighbourhood of South Parkdale and Roncesvalles Village in the west end of Toronto.
It is a three day annual event held during one weekend in October albeit the dates may vary. Currently the combined mailing list totals over 3,000 names.
Fundamentally, West has four or five core home studios and each studio hosts artists that complement the host artist's work.

Aboriginal people share customs and culture through the art of storytelling. Today, Aboriginal filmmakers and videographers are making the stories of their people accessible to a whole new generation. The Winnipeg Aboriginal Film and Video Festival involves two days of free workshops, screenings, tours and talks designed to inspire today's storytellers -- Aboriginal youth.
The Festival is timed to follow the Manitoba Aboriginal Youth Achievement Awards, so that as many Aboriginal youth from every corner of Manitoba can attend.
